5 Movies Worth Watching On Netflix

Being a cinephile has gotten me to come across hidden gems throughout streaming platforms. We get so caught up in the glamour and advertising a huge number of hidden gems go unnoticed by us. To solve that issue I’ve come up with a list of a few movies that will help you take full advantage of your Netflix subscription. These movies have been curated by my personal preferences but they can be enjoyed by all. These movies explore a wide range of issues, topics, emotions that keeps you thinking about them long after you’re done watching them. The true value of a movie can only be understood based on how much of an impact it has had on you.  These are a few movies that will truly amaze you and make you realize how profound the art of filmmaking truly is.

Baby Driver (2017): Baby Driver is an action drama movie starring Ansel Elgort, Jamie Foxx, Jhon Hamm, and Eiza Gonzales which was directed by the brilliant Edgar Wright. The movie is about Baby, a talented getaway driver with tinnitus caused by a car crash when he was a kid who uses the help of music to cope with it. He’s forced to work for “Doc”, a mysterious man who conspires to rob banks. This sticky situation forces the baby to work with a group of criminals as an out from this life as he falls for Debora, a waiter at his favorite restaurant in hopes that they can live happily ever after. Baby Driver is a cult hit and provides spectacular action along with brilliant comedic timing in classic Edgar Wright fashion who brings out the best from his stellar cast. It’s a must-watch for action fans and is truly an underrated classic.

Scott Pilgrim vs the world (2013): Coming up with another Edgar Wright classic, Scott Pilgrim is a unique take on a Rom-com packed with action hence satisfying viewers of all genres. It stars the Talented Micheal Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Michael Cera plays Scott Pilgrim who plays an awkward 22-year old who also plays the bass guitar for his band. Scott runs into the mysterious Ramona Flowers(Elizabeth Winstead) who’s the new girl in town and tries to win her over but to do so he has to battle her 7 evil exes. This movie is packed with action and comedy and offers a unique take on romance along with a stellar supporting cast such as Brie Larson and Chris Evans. This movie offers a spectacular experience and is sure to take you on a rollercoaster of emotions.

Hancock (2008): Hancock offers a unique take on a superhero movie starring Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Jason Bateman. The movie is about a down-and-out superhero, Hancock who despises being a superhero as even after helping stop multiple criminal activities is still seen as a menace by the public. Due to this, he finds help with Rey (Jason Bateman) who works with public relations who helps him develop his image in the eyes of the public and establish himself as a superhero. This movie has action, drama, and comedy written all over it and offers a different take when it comes to a classic superhero movie. The twist and turns in the story are sure to grip audiences and question what it truly means to be a superhero.

The Pursuit of Happyness (2006): This movie is a biographical drama that follows the inspiring story of Chris Gardner and his son who is portrayed by Father and Son duo Will Smith and Jaden Smith. The story revolves around the life of Chris Gardnerd who sells portable X-ray machines to doctors but struggles financially and is unable to meet his wife’s demands which eventually damages their marriage. Garner goes through tremendous adversities throughout the film including getting evicted from his house with his son after his wife leaves him. in spite of this he is able to land an internship with a stockbroker firm. This movie truly explores the relationship between a father and his son and exemplifies what it takes to be happy in spite of the adversities you go through making it must watch for audiences.

Hush (2016): This movie hails from the Horror/Thriller genre starring Kate Siegel and Jhon Gallagher jr. The movie revolves around Maddie (Kate Siegel) an up-and-coming horror writer who’s dumb and deaf and has isolated herself at her house in the woods in hopes to enhance her senses. She gets caught up in a cat and mouse chase with the mysterious character only mentioned as “The Man” (Jhon Gallagher jr.) Who’s a masked serial killer who deduces the fact that Maddie is dumb and deaf. He initially plays around with Maddie by cutting the power to her house so she’s unable to call for help. He traps Maddie in her house and now she has to use her senses to fight for survival. This movie will have you at the edge of your seats and give you the chills. It uses simple cinematography techniques to make audiences feel uncomfortable to better understand what it feels like to be dumb and deaf and fight for your life. The suspense will give you goosebumps but it offers exciting scenes for horror/thriller fans.
