When it comes to Fashion Week, what we see on the runway sets the tone for what we can expect to see trending. With the AW23 season officially here, Beauty Daily by Clarins looked back on beauty trend forecasts to see what is actually trending now. We analysed the AW23 runways and the most common media predictions, and delved into Pinterest and TikTok data to reveal the most accurate forecasts.
Looking at Pinterest and TikTok data, we also uncovered the biggest unforecasted autumn beauty trends that are currently going viral.
AW23 Forecasted Trends Ranked
#1 Soft Goth – 1 Billion TikTok Views
Soft goth is officially the biggest beauty trend of AW23, which is defined by a lighter, more glam approach to goth. With a cumulative total of 1 billion TikTok views across goth makeup related hashtags, makeup looks such as sheer âpantyhoseâ dark eyeshadow looks, and smudged eyeliner paired with a natural lip (also seen at Etro AW23), are on the rise.
Beauty Daily by Clarins saw the biggest increase in Pinterest searches for keywords relating to this trend. âSoft goth makeupâ has increased 300% from last year, whilst a number of black nail design searches have increased drastically. âBlack trendy nailsâ are up 2,000% from last month, whilst âblack nail setsâ increased 9,500% from last year. In regards to style, black chrome nails were the most popular, increasing 300% in a year, followed by black French tips increasing 80%.
#2 Crystal Details – 825.7 Million TikTok Views
Crystals and rhinestones are synonymous to AW23 fashion, but when analysing predictions â these are being incorporated into our beauty looks this season. From David Koma incorporating red rhinestones onto models’ lips, to Louis Vuitton using square silver rhinestones under the eyes â this trend forecast has officially manifested as the second biggest autumn trend. The trend has a cumulative total of 825.7 million TikTok views across the biggest ârhinestone makeupâ related hashtags.
According to Pinterest, âlong nails with gemsâ searches increased 1,500% from last year, revealing that weâre wanting bedazzled maniâs. Users were also searching for âeye gem makeup looksâ and âhair gemsâ up 100% from last year.
#3 Celestial Metallics – 162 Million TikTok Views
Celestial metallics is the third biggest autumn trend prediction based on data. From gold foils worked into finger waves at Harris Reed AW23 to silver pigments seen on runways â this trend has a total of 162 million TikTok views.
Gold chrome nails are also up 400% on Pinterest searches, as well as gold star nails up 300% from last year. Users are also searching for out-of-this world makeup inspo, with ethereal makeup searches up 100%. Silver chrome nails have also increased 700%.
#4 Blunt Bob – 98.8 Million TikTok Views
Not everyone is bold enough to do the big chop, hence why it didnât rack up as many views as other autumn 2023 forecasts. In fourth place, the blunt bob as seen on the Christopher Kane runway has racked up 98.8 million TikTok views.
Whilst the blunt bob has been the most popular celebrity haircut this year (rocked by Hailey Bieber and Emma Stone), Pinterest users are searching for alternative takes on the bob. Italian bob searches have increased by 200% from last year, whilst French bob searches have increased by 70%.
#5 Pops of Pastels – 78.8 Million TikTok Views
Pops of pastels were spotted quite frequently on the AW23 runways, and uncharacteristically were predicted as a trend for the autumn. Richard Quinnâs AW23 models rocked soft botanical-esque eyeshadow in shades of lilac and powdery blue.
Despite being forecasted for AW23, Pinterest searches for pastels have declined from last month as we move away from summer. For example, âpastel french tip nailsâ have decreased in searches by 40% and pastel blues, yellows and greens nail searches have also decreased by 40%.
