Before officially filing for divorce on Tuesday, Joe Jonas made efforts to mend his four-year marriage with Sophie Turner, as revealed by an exclusive source close to the family who spoke to Page Six.
“Divorce was a last resort for Joe; he never wished to disrupt his family’s unity. Instead, he believed it was the necessary course of action for the well-being of his daughters,” the insider shared, shedding light on the reasons behind their relationship’s dissolution.
“The home they shared had become a place of unhappiness, and this year had been particularly challenging for Joe and Sophie. Despite the public speculation, it wasn’t a single event that caused their separation,” the source clarified.
The insider elaborated that the estranged couple, who exchanged vows in May 2019, had experienced “numerous disagreements.”
“These disagreements continued to accumulate, and Joe eventually reached a point where he felt he had exhausted all available options to salvage the marriage,” the source added.
One potential source of discord could have been their contrasting lifestyles, with a separate insider previously suggesting that Turner’s enjoyment of nightlife played a role in their divorce.
“Her inclination is to enjoy the nightlife scene, while he prefers a quieter, homebound life. Their lifestyles differ significantly,” the source disclosed to TMZ on Tuesday.
Court documents obtained by Page Six revealed that Joe Jonas, the 34-year-old frontman of the Jonas Brothers, filed for divorce from Sophie Turner, the 27-year-old actress known for her role in “Dark Phoenix,” in Miami after four years of marriage.
In the filing, Jonas stated that his marriage was “irretrievably broken.”
While the “Sucker” singer mentioned that his 3-year-old and 1-year-old daughters with Turner have predominantly resided with him, he is pursuing a shared parental responsibility arrangement.
Regarding their assets, the estranged couple appears to face no complications, thanks to an “ironclad” prenuptial agreement they purportedly executed just weeks before their wedding.
According to the Blast, Joe will retain all royalties earned from his musical collaborations with his brothers, Kevin Jonas and Nick Jonas, as well as his earnings from his other band, DNCE.
Meanwhile, Turner will hold onto her earnings from “Game of Thrones” and any residuals from her acting career.
Furthermore, any properties acquired individually by the “X-Men: Apocalypse” star and the Grammy nominee before their marriage will remain their respective possessions.
This abrupt shift in their relationship status might catch some off guard, especially since reports of their potential separation due to ‘serious issues’ only emerged a few days ago.
Fans began to take notice when the “Cake by the Ocean” singer appeared without his wedding ring during recent performances, and the “Do Revenge” star was notably absent from her husband’s concerts.
