First of all, we must understand the meaning of astrology and its relations to the horoscope. Astrology falls under the category of “pseudoscience” which derives its beliefs and connection to divine knowledge about human activities and events by studying the position of celestial or heavenly objects. Pseudoscience is not reliable because it is based on unfounded beliefs, practices and statements that are often exaggerated, inconsistent, falsified and has no scientific basis. One of these beliefs and practices is the horoscope which is associated with astrology. Before I forget, astrology should not be confused with astronomy, which is a branch of science that studies celestial objects, space and the entire universe.

Many people believe that the horoscope explains why a person acts in a certain way or why things happen to him or her based on the movement of the stars. This should not be the case. On the flipside, newspapers and magazines have benefitted from the horoscope because the horoscope is one of the first things that many readers would look for when reading their publications. Therefore, the horoscope has become an important tool for publications to increase readership and sales. That being said, the fact remains that astrology is unreliable and should not control our lives. Below are five reasons why you should not believe astrological predictions:

  • They have no scientific basis – As mentioned above, astrology is a pseudoscience that is incompatible with scientific studies. Although many astrologers have claimed that astrology is based on scientific facts, science had proven otherwise. All studies done by scientists in the past and until recent years have reached one conclusion: Astrology has no scientific foundation. There are no scientific studies that proved the validity or accuracy of astrology. Thus, astrology ad lost its credibility, as well as its scientific and theoretical standing.

Astrology’s predictions are “hit and miss” – Scientists and experts agree that the information we get from astrology is “random at best,” meaning it is hit and miss. For example, two people born under the zodiac sign Pisces would have different predictions from their horoscopes. In other words, there is no name in the “horoscope bullet.” It is inconsistent and will just hit people randomly and unfortunately, they will believe the predictions as presented to them.

It is damaging to one’s life – Authorities and experts believe that making astrology a part of one’s regular routine is more damaging than helpful to him or her. When you depend on your horoscope, you will lose focus and the ability to make a wise decision on your own. Hence, it would have a negative impact on your life as you would become dependent on what the horoscope would say instead of doing things properly and logically.

The astrologer will tell you what you want to hear – Astrologers will give you predictions that are aligned with what you want and not based on facts. They will tell you everything that is good and what you want to hear. This is how most of them get a loyal following and a steady income. It is common to find ads online that say, “Do you have any problem on love, money, work? Talk to Astrologer. Dial this number for a live consultation.” As much as possible, do not engage in such activities as many people have been conned by people claiming to be astrologers, who were actually only after their money.
