The day that we all have been dreading finally came. One of the six friends, Chandler Bing, has left the world.

On 28th October 2023, Mathew Perry, one of the most beloved Hollywood actors and comedians, best known for his portrayal of Chandler Bing on “Friends” passed away at 54.

For many people worldwide, we’re sure this feels like a personal loss. Although he technically was one of the six on-screen friends, he was also OUR friend in many ways.

In fact, all six of them were our own friends too; they made us laugh, cry, and smile and reminded us that it would all eventually be okay.

Chandler Bing was undeniably one of the funniest characters in the series. While he was most known for his sarcastic jokes and awkward social skills, he also had a keen sense of style. His fashion choices from the 90s are relevant and on-trend even today in 2023.

On this occasion, here’s a look at 8 of his most iconic fashion looks from “Friends”.

Out of the six friends, Chandler had a conventional office job where he worked in data processing (not transponsting). Although in a boring work environment, he always seemed to dress impressively well for it.

With a mix of 90s fashion coupled with vintage elements from the 40s, Chandler’s workwear fits were way ahead of their time. He mostly wore a suit with a tie to work, but he always had a fun twist going on with either vintage-inspired accessories or just the way he wore the outfit.

Here is one such great fashion moment where he wore a simple off-white button-down with a fancy printed tie and a brown open vest. Every part of his outfit, from the print to the silhouette to the pairing, is very much on-trend today.

In “The One With The Football”, where the whole group plays football to see who wins the Geller Cup, what Chandler wears is the definition of athleisure, at a time when the word or the concept was not even invented. A grey crew neck sweater, with the sleeves rolled up, paired with baggy sweatpants, top-notch white Nike sneakers, and a backward baseball hat. 25-year-olds today need to take notes.

This is the perfect example of a look put together with basic pieces, styled differently. To this day, people cop the trend in many new ways and styles with the ultimate inspiration drawn from the iconic Chandler Bing. In “The One With The Baby on The Bus” Chandler is seen wearing an oversized white T-shirt over a grey long-sleeved T-shirt. It was the epitome of street fashion with elements stolen from vintage hip-hop culture.

In “The One With The Thumb” Chandler sports an oversized blue denim shirt topped with a black sweater vest. He paired it with cream-colored pants. The style and outfit screamed 90s and was seen on many men at the time. Chandler pulled the whole look together with rolled-up sleeves and his cute hairstyle. It was an ultra-stylish way to carry off a rather simple look.

In “The One Where Everybody Finds Out” Chandler dons the perfect intimate date outfit. A simple white button-down paired with brown crease-front trousers, and the star of the look – a geeky buttoned V-neck sweater vest. Clearly, the man has a thing for vests, and he pulls off this look with the utmost sophistication. With the neatly done hairstyle, he channels college professor vibes with the entire look and we love it.

Vacation-ready

Chandler wears what would go down in history as one of the most vacation-approved choices for men, specifically for beach vacations. Even today, you will find at least one person on the streets of New York during summer, wearing almost exactly the same printed shirt that Chandler wears in “The One With The Jellyfish”. He pairs it with simple grey shorts in the episode and we cannot think of a better way to style it.

Chandler wore bowling shirts in many episodes throughout the show, including the pilot. It can perhaps be considered as a look synonymous with Chandler Bing. In a date with Kathy, Chandler is seen laying a super-cool bowling shirt over a crew neck white T-shirt, paired with white sneakers. In the pilot, and a few other episodes we can see him sporting simple half-sleeve bowling shirts. We can’t think of a cooler yet laid-back outfit to hang out with friends.

Chandler was perhaps the only icon who made a statement with sweatpants. In several episodes, the man sported an ultra-laid-back look where he tucked his sweatpants into his socks and matched it with an oversized jumper or sweater. We don’t know if this was improvised, in which case it would be Mathew Perry’s very own fashion choice, or if it was planned. But even today, people try to mimic the look with ankle-sinched joggers.

From sophisticated workwear to chic going-out looks to lounge fits, there was no look that Chandler Bing could not pull off. While he may have left us with some of the best memories, his laugh, his witty comebacks, and his stylish looks will always remain evergreen and in our hearts for posterity, because there is undeniably no other sitcom that is as legendary as “Friends”
