Written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, a troubled high-school boy with a difficult home life decides to run away to Tokyo. When he arrives, he befriends a girl who appears to be able to manipulate the weather.

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms, streaming on STARZPLAY starting January 16

Mari Okada’s directorial debut focuses on a girl called Maquia, who belongs to a mystical race of beings known as the Iorph, who are blessed with eternal youth. While escaping war, Maquia finds a lone surviving infant and decides to raise him as her son.

The Promised Neverland, Season 1, streaming on STARZPLAY starting January 9

Written by Kaiu Shirai and illustrated by Posuka Demizu, three gifted kids at an isolated orphanage discover the sinister scheme that the orphanage has in plan and look for a way to escape from their evil caretaker and lead the other children in a risky escape plan.

Akudama Drive, Season 1, streaming on STARZPLAY starting January 23

Created by Kazutaka Kodaka and inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Reservoir Dogs’, Akudama Drive is set in a dystopian future in Kansai and the story follows a young woman who accidentally becomes a criminal known as an Akudama. When she is pursued by the government, she decides to take a fake identity in an attempt to survive.
