Mason Rose Gray is a Florida-based singer and a songwriter who is intent on shedding light on the good and bad aspects of life through her music. Her music is a blend of blues, indie, and folk and her lyrics are honest and unfiltered.

Her music inspires self-love and being happy and her main goal is to shine light into the dark through her music. Mason Rose’s musical inspirations include David Bowie, Miranda Lambert, and Billie Eilish.

Your music is very raw and honest, do you find sharing your feelings and stories to the world hard?
Absolutely. I’m very sensitive and feel emotions very deeply. I wear my heart on my sleeve, which is not always easy or well perceived by society. Singing and songwriting have become an incredible outlet, helping me process emotions and life in a healthy and healing way. I enjoy putting my attention and energy into my music. I find it the best way to express myself. It ultimately opens my heart and soul. I’m forever grateful to be on this journey every day.

Have you ever gotten in your head and felt like you were oversharing?
Oh my goodness yes, 100%! All the time. Literally mid-sentence I’ll find myself thinking, oh dang, did I just say that? Haha I’m a big goof and have moments where I talk incessantly. I love sharing and hearing honest stories and value the importance of sharing the human experience (the good, the bad, the ugly)

Is the music you make a reflection of the type of music you grew up listening to or are they two separate things?
Yes, I’ve always been fascinated by heartfelt, moody songs and intrigued by upbeat soulful love songs. They have a huge influence on the music I write. Oftentimes I put on a song and get inspiration from either the lyrics, beat or melody.

At what age or point in your life did you decide to pursue music as a career?
I started writing lyrics when I was younger and would sing when no one was home. It wasn’t until I went through a breakup and major self-transformation that I revisited writing and music. As I began tapping into my creativity about 2 years ago, miraculous things began cultivating. It’s been a blast since and lyrics have been pouring out of me. I write songs every day with my guitar and freestyle to keep my creativity alive. Lyrics and melodies pop into my head while driving, thank god for voice memos.

Which artist would you say you have listened to the most and always anticipate their new release?
Wow, that’s a tough one. There are so many amazing and talented artists. I find inspiration through many of them. Billie Eilish is a musical genius, the way she navigates words with her voice is an out-of-body experience. I find it magical and mesmerizing. Maggie Rogers vocals, lyrics, and production style are outrageous and I absolutely look up to her.  I also love David Bowie’s eccentric style and jovial personality are intoxicating. His music makes me feel out of this world.

Who is your favorite music artist of all time?
Honestly, I don’t really have one, but if I had to choose, I’d say it’s a tie between Sam Smith and Justin Bieber. Sam Smith has opened up my heart with his lyrics and voice. I remember going to one of his concerts and balling my eyes out. His voice struck my whole body. I strive to have that kind of impact on others. I find Justin Bieber to be very endearing. He went through a lot in his life, having public highs and lows. His authenticity and faith through it all instill hope in my music career.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I love adventures and having fun. My favorite hobby is definitely music. I enjoy singing, playing guitar and learning piano. I enjoy freestyle dancing (poetry in motion), painting, hiking, reading, writing, cooking, yoga, the beach, spending time with family, and playing with my stinker Australian Shepard, Bexley!

How excited were you for the release of your single, “SURVIVE”?
I was super excited! SURVIVE was my first single and was tremendously nervous about the response, especially because it’s so vulnerable. I was taken back by the love and support I received. The banging trio consisted of Tyler Genius the producer, Tyler Freeman the guitarist, and myself the lyricist and singer. We had a blast! It was definitely one for the books <3

Do you have an album on the way soon?
I do! It’s called Omnipresence. It encompasses the presence of being. My hope is to incorporate all human emotions within my music, making material people can relate to, as we maneuver this human experience. I currently have 5 songs produced and plan to release one each month. Stay tuned!!

Are you currently working on any projects?
I’ve been putting a lot of energy and focus into this album. I just finished a music video for my next single, perfect design releasing 8/4/21!! Whoot whoot!

What is your favorite thing about being a singer?
The out-of-body experience and the feeling of deep emotions. Music is my safe place, a form of healing and processing life. Spiritual practice and journey. It’s beautiful to witness someone seeing their story to the music.

What are you looking forward to the most in your music career?
Continuing to learn and grow as an artist. I’m so excited to take this adventure and see what the future has in store for me. I can’t wait to hit the stage once my album is finished!
