One of the biggest struggles when it comes to make-up is finding the right foundation. Not only do you have to find the right shades and finishes, but you must know your undertones as well. With all these boxes to tick, finding the right foundation becomes much harder. most brands have a limited range of shades, many of them catering to lighter shades. If you are a woman of colour and you are looking for the right foundation for you, then look no further than this list!
Fenty Pro Filt’r Longwear Foundation

We are starting the list strong with Fenty’s Pro Filt’r Foundation. If you have normal to oily skin, then I would suggest the soft matte Long wear formula. It has climate adaptive properties and is resistant to sweat and humidity, ensuring that your makeup is in place wherever you go.
The hydrating Long-wear formula is great for people with normal to dry skin. The hydrating formula has the same climate adaptive benefits, and it also contains both Grape seed oil and Sodium hyaluronate which works to keep your skin moisturized, soft, and supple.
With 50 shades for both the soft matte and hydrating formulas, Fenty is guaranteed to have the right match for you.
Rimmel London Match Perfection

The Rimmel London Match Perfection is my all-time favourite go-to Foundation. It is a 24-hour, medium coverage formula with a satin finish, making it very lightweight and great for everyday use. It has smart tone technologies allowing the foundation to set and adjust to your skin. It works well throughout the day and starts to set more naturally.
Compatibility is another important thing to consider when it comes to foundations and other base makeup. Formulas that do not work well together could result in creases, flakiness, or patchy bases. However, this foundation works well with different formulas and brands allowing for smooth and even skin.
Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation

The Huda beauty faux filter foundation is another product that has gotten rave reviews all round, including from black women. There are 39 shades in total, and it is said to be transfer, water and fade – proof, with 24-hour wearability.
There are two things to note about this foundation: It oxidizes, meaning it darkens slightly as it sets on the skin, and it dries very quickly, meaning it would be easier to apply and blend out the foundation in sections as opposed to applying it all over your face and then blending. The formula is full coverage and has a luminous matte finish, resulting in a flawless and smooth base.
Clinique Even Better Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Foundation
The Clinique Even Better range is a 24-hour, light to medium coverage foundation that comes in a whopping 56 shades! Not only does this foundation blend out smoothly for a flawless base, but it also improves the complexion of your skin over time, fading away blemishes and scars as well as evening out the skin tone.
When I had first started learning how to do my own makeup, this was the foundation my mother got me. it blends out easily and coverage is build-able, making it very beginner friendly.
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15
It would be remiss of me not to mention Bobbi Brown. Bobbi Brown is a favorite amongst black women as they have, and continue to, cater to black women. Their Skin Foundation SPF is an oil free, light to medium coverage foundation. It is a Long-wear foundation and provides SPF protection. It comes in 30 shades and is suitable for people with dry skin. It is water based and works to give you a natural yet radiant glow.
UOMA Beauty SAY WHAT?! Foundation

UOMA Beauty is an indie makeup brand, based in the US, founded by Sharon Chuter, a veteran beauty executive. She has worked at Revlon, L’Oréal, and benefit cosmetics. the brand is rooted in its pursuit of inclusivity and diversity and it shows in the product range. Their Say What?! Foundation comes in 51 shades with 6 formulas! It has bio-mimicry pigments that work to give the foundation a matte, skin like finish. It is a hydrating Long-wear foundation with build-able coverage, that hides fine lines, blemishes, and rosacea.
Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24-hour Longwear Foundation

Last but not least, we have the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24-hour Longwear foundation. It comes in 50 shades and has a soft, natural, matte finish. The formula is lightweight and transfer proof and well as humidity resistant. Lancôme is one of my favourite brands when it comes to base products. Top this off with their long time no shine setting powder and you will have a flawless base minus any ghastly flashback, making it the perfect combo for women of colour.
When it comes to finding the right foundation there is a lot of trial and error involved, especially the darker you are. I would say before you go rushing to the checkouts online, head out to a makeup store. A one size fits all approach is not the best when it comes to finding the right foundation, instead try out some of these products in person and you will be sure to get the right one.
