Why I’m Obsessed with French Girl Hairstyles

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been loving Parisian-inspired hairstyles. They consist of a whole range of hairstyles that’ll look Magnifique on all hair lengths and hair types. The beauty of French hair trends is that they tend to be a little messy, undone, and natural in the best way, of course. I love them. They’re both effortless yet chic! Say bonjour to my top 5 favorite French girl hairstyles.

Long Waves

This particular hairstyle has us inspired by our best friend, Emily Cooper, from Netflix’s “Emily in Paris”. There’s no surprise that at the very top of this list are her iconic long and bouncy waves.

I love how easy this hairstyle is to recreate as well. As you want your hair to shape your face, you first need to take a comb and style your hair into a middle parting. The key to achieving these glossy waves is to use tongs with a wide barrel; this will ensure your curls are voluminous and full of texture. Don’t forget to use some hairspray to make sure your waves hold throughout the day!

The pièce de résistance of this hairstyle is that it looks super flattering on any face shape as it frames your face perfectly. It’s soft, elegant and glamorous for any occasion. Looks like it’s time for you to grab a comb and a curler to try it out for yourself. Plus, if you’re a big fan of the Netflix show, you’ll know that a second season is confirmed. I, for one, can’t wait to see more of how she styles her hair in the new season.

Wispy, Overgrown Bangs

If you’re anything like me and love a laid back hairstyle with super low upkeep, this is for you! Often when we think of bangs, we immediately think of the very precise fringes, cut to perfection, which are very high maintenance. Fear not, this particular hairstyle is the exact opposite!

Wispy, overgrown bangs are trendy and a great way to try out bangs without committing to a thicker, fuller fringe. Plus, they’re flattering on all hair types, especially those with fine hair! This hairstyle is a super-easy way to make your face appear thinner. Full straight-cut bangs can often make your face appear wider and rounder. However, these light, wispy bangs create layers around the face as they’re lightly feathered at the end, giving the illusion of a contouring effect.

This hairstyle is messy, sassy and youthful. What’s not to love? It’s a stunning way to transform your look whilst adding layers and texture to your hair. What I love about this hairstyle is that no two bangs are the same. They’re all unique in their own way. That means you could even trim your bangs yourself if you’re brave enough. The messier, the better!

Lob

We’re all familiar with the popular hairstyle, the bob, but let me introduce you to the long bob haircut; or lob for short. It often sits a little bit above your shoulders or just below. Just like its sister, the bob, the lob has been a popular hairstyle in Paris. It’s striking yet effortlessly cool. It’s a fun way of experimenting with slightly shorter hair without having to cut it to the length of a bob. Plus, it’s a hairstyle that’s a breeze to style as it already provides so much natural volume.

You get the best of both worlds with this hairstyle as it still has enough length to be able to style it, whether you want it curly, straight or anywhere in between. This short chop is also brilliant for bringing attention to your face and contouring your jawline and cheekbones. If you’re looking to try out this cut, you’ll be glad to know it’s a fab option for all hair textures!

French Braids

My top 5 had to include this timeless and classic hairstyle; the French braid. French braids are versatile and gorgeous for any occasion and hair type. I also love how it’s an easy and beautiful way to keep your hair out of your face, regardless of your hair type and texture.

Let’s not forget to mention all the insane benefits of braiding your hair! To name a few, braiding your hair help to prevent hair breakage, loss of hair moisture and tangling.

As there are loads of options on ways to style French braids, there’s bound to be a style that you love the look of. They’re such a creative way of styling your hair. Trust me, I had no knowledge of French braids, but after a few YouTube tutorials, I was braiding like a pro!

You could even take some inspiration from Chantel Jeffries and rock French braid pigtails with a few strands of hair from each side to frame your face. It’s effortlessly flattering. Why not give it a try?

Top Knot

Hear me out we all have those bad hair days where we want our hair out of our face. It’s either we can’t be bothered to do anything with it or we don’t have the time to spare. All we know is we want it to look presentable. Surely I can’t be the only one who’s like this.

The top knot is a hairstyle that will become your best friend. This hairstyle is a fantastic option for days when you’re rushing in the morning or too lazy to wash your hair. Honestly, this hairstyle often works best with hair that’s been unwashed for about two or three days. It’s a tactical and fabulous way of channeling your inner ballerina by wrapping all your hair away from your face. Once again, the one thing all of these Parisian-inspired hairstyles have in common is that they’re exquisite on every hair type!

This hairstyle is superb if you’re looking to make a bit of a statement with a more sophisticated and refined look. Just like Dixie Damelio, you could add a sleek centre part to your top knot to help separate the front sections of your hair. This styling technique will also help create additional volume as your polished centre part contrasts the height of your top knot. You’ll look like you’ve come straight off the runway!

Make sure you use plenty of hairspray and bobby pins to help keep this look in place
throughout the day!
