When it comes to Christmas film cars, it is not just Santa’s sleigh that takes the spotlight. In fact, from The Wet Bandits’ 1986 Dodge Ram Van in Home Alone to Billy’s Volkswagen Beetle in Gremlins, many of our favourite festive films feature all sorts of classic cars.
With this in mind, the team at Select Car Leasing have taken a look back on each of these cars, and where you can buy similar ones on the market today.

- 1969 Chevrolet Impala in Bad Santa – $59,500 (£46,910)
In the popular 2003 Christmas comedy Bad Santa, Billy Bob cruises in a fourth-generation 1969 Chevrolet Impala equipped with a powerful V8 engine which boasts 235 horsepower.
However, considering the shoddy state of the specific vehicle in the film, it’s questionable whether it retained any of that power.
For those seeking to live out their Bad Santa fantasy this festive season, this vehicle is currently up for auction at the staggering price tag of $59,500.
- VW Beetle in Gremlins – £34,995 ($44,382)
It’s not just the furry creatures that were stealing the show in horror-comedy classic Gremlins, it was Billy’s iconic Volkswagen Beetle as well.
Billy’s Beetle had serious problems starting up due to it being frozen in the 1984 film. Despite this, this vehicle still had its moments, most notably after being used to rescue Billy’s girlfriend Kate during a gremlin attack.
After lasting three generations across a total of seven decades, it was announced in 2019 that Volkwasgen would be discontinuing this beloved model. However, classic examples are still available on the resale market, some attracting a hefty price tag of £34,995.
- 1937 Oldsmobile Six F-37 Touring Sedan in A Christmas Story – $33,000 (£26,021)
In the 1983 hit festive film A Christmas Story, you may remember the 1937 Oldsmobile Six F-37 Touring Sedan owned by the Parker family.
From its midnight black body to its streamlined body and fenders, this vehicle boasts a striking appearance and captures the essence of the late ‘30s streamlined aesthetic.
If you want to live-out your own Christmas story, a similar version of this vehicle is still available on the market for a value of $33,000.
- 1986 Dodge Ram Van in Home Alone – $8,395 (£6,619)
When it comes to vehicles fit for villiains, the 1986 Dodge Ram Van driven by Harry and Marv in Home Alone is certainly up there on the list.
Sporting a light blue exterior and proudly displaying the logo of OH-KAY Plumbing & Heating, this work van makes frequent appearances throughout the film. It serves as the getaway vehicle for the hapless thieves, while blending seamlessly into the neighbourhood scenery.
What’s more, fans of the heartfelt 1990 comedy will be delighted to know that they can pick up a similar van for around $8,395 at auction.
- 1984 Chevrolet Cavalier Wagon in The Preacher’s Wife – $4,000 (£3,156)
Now this is what you call a bargain vehicle – the iconic 1984 Chevrolet Cavalier Wagon in American Christmas comedy-drama film The Preacher’s Wife can be yours from around $4,000.
In the flick, starring Denzel Washington and the late Whitney Houston, the Chevy Wagon plays a central role in the life of Reverend Henry Biggs, played by Courtney B. Vance, from driving the car to deliver presents, to taking it to court to successfully defend a young man wrongfully accused of crime.
