Lavendine’s latest single, “Waterless Cloud,” is a hauntingly powerful anthem of breaking free from deception. With raw emotion and striking rock influences, the sister duo delves into their inspiration, creative process, and the deeply personal message behind their transformative new release.

Waterless Cloud carries such a powerful theme of breaking free from deception. Can you share the inspiration behind the song and how it came to life?
This song is not just a melody and lyrics; we both, at different times, have faced this foreboding battle with deception and a cunning attack on our personal lives. We both defeated it by trusting our gut and watching what people do rather than what they say. It seems that a narcissistic spirit is running rampant in this generation, and we both have been totally liberated and set free from that spirit — we have truly conquered it!
We wanted to write a song to scream it out to those bound or trapped by that battle and reveal to them that they can speak to it and tell it to leave their lives with God’s help! You can be truly delivered from that stronghold in your life!
The track blends melancholic energy with a sense of liberation. How did you approach balancing those emotions in the music and lyrics?
Most of our writing somehow balances darkness and hope because we are total opposites, looking through the lens of our personal life experiences. This blend — Jana being a realist and sometimes pessimistic, and my ultimate optimism mixed with a comedic outlook — is always captured in our songs! It gives the listener both perspectives as they journey through our music. Jana keeps me grounded, and I pull her up into my hot air balloon! Haha!
Your sound has evolved with this release—what elements do you think set Waterless Cloud apart from your previous work?
We have always created feel-good music, but we desperately wanted to draw out the darker elements in our production. We both knew this song needed a rock-minded producer because a song about narcissism is pretty dark and foreboding. Mark Needham was the answer to our prayers. We have loved watching him finally add the dark musical moments into our creations, like we always knew our music was meant to have. Our sound is finally complete.
You’ve received praise from major outlets like American Songwriter and Hollywood Digest. How does it feel to have your music recognized on such a wide scale?
It has been surreal to see others celebrate what we create. It’s something we have strived and believed in since we were both very young. I guess you could say we feel like we are finally being noticed by our peers. There’s a feeling of fulfillment and satisfaction when the industry you are in finally sees who you are and values what you do. It makes the tears and struggles of this music journey worth it.
Your past singles, like Rapture and Open Up a Window, have made an impact on the Billboard AC charts. What has that success meant for you as artists?
We watched those songs climb on the radio, and it was exhilarating to see them take on a life of their own. You never know how things will turn out in your pursuit of destiny. It revived our desire to keep creating music from our souls and confirmed to us that our music is worth something — that we didn’t miss it when we felt led to do music. It’s what propelled us to where we are today! It’s been surreal.
Your music resonates across generations. What do you think makes it so timeless and universally relatable?
We have both been deeply influenced by many phenomenal artists and songwriters throughout our lives. Growing up obsessed with music in general has birthed a multi-style, multigenerational sound that naturally comes out of us. Instead of putting a name or genre on what we write, we just sit down and let the melodies and ideas flow, never putting our music in a box. Each song has its own unique sound and has somehow found its place. It’s pretty amazing to see how each song stands alone and touches so many different ages.
As sisters and bandmates, how do you navigate the creative process together? Has your dynamic evolved over time?
Yes, we have definitely gone through growing pains and butted heads in the process of becoming settled in our abilities and strengths. We used to struggle with conforming to each other’s desires but finally realized we are who we are, and there’s no conforming to each other’s opinions. This realization has led to a truly unique sound, because we started blending our ideas, taking our music to new heights and far beyond the creative box! When we listen to our songs now, we hear both of our influences weaving through seamlessly. It’s pretty amazing to see how we have sharpened each other without compromising our own styles and ideas.
What was the most challenging part of creating “Waterless Cloud?” Did you encounter any unexpected moments during the songwriting or recording process?
This song really took on a life of its own! It’s so far beyond where it started. It’s like we had the foundational idea and concept, and then out of nowhere, the song wrote itself! Haha. When that kind of thing happens in the writing process, Jana and I know it’s God. As of right now, it stands alone and is definitely one of the most unique songs we have ever written.
If Waterless Cloud had a visual story or music video, what would it look like? What imagery comes to mind when you think of this song?
We actually just finished the imagery and video for this song. It features an evil person wearing a mask, parading around like they own the moment. The victim or innocent person, pulled along by an invisible force, is manipulated by the deceiver through valleys, deserts, and fires, gradually realizing they have been controlled. It’s that dark, heavy feeling you experience when you’re trapped in their narcissistic games and cycles. But somewhere in the midst of it, you start seeing the deceiver for who they really are. In the end, the deceiver gets what they deserve!

The themes in your music often explore deep emotions and personal growth. Is there a message you hope listeners take away from this new single?
Yes, we want the listeners to feel liberated by hearing and knowing that there are other people who have been through that kind of manipulation and abuse, and that you can truly come out of it! We hope this song gives them a voice to speak up for themselves and also lets them know that they have other survivors who see it and do care about their pain. Lavendine is saying, “You’re heard and you’re not alone! You’re gonna make it out of this trial!”
What’s next for Lavendine? Can fans expect more new music or any exciting projects following this release?
Yes, they can! We have several new songs in the works, and we are excited to see where these new creations land. We are also thankful for this music journey. It makes us grateful to see our music touching and helping people.
