Your 2023 album WAVE & SHINE had a strong impact. What was the creative process behind it?
The idea for WAVE & SHINE was born in the studio while my brother, AliJack, and I were working on a song together. That track ended up becoming the outro of the project, also titled WAVE & SHINE.

I had a vision of how I wanted to merge our styles, but the project evolved into something unexpected—and we loved it. WAVE & SHINE is a collaboration project, with “WAVE” representing AliJack’s style—while “SHINE” represents mine.

Which track on the album holds the most personal significance for you, and why?
The whole project means a lot to me, but if I had to choose one, it would be PEACE OVER EVERYTHING MATERIAL. That one is special because I wrote it as if I was writing a letter to my kids.

Did you face any major challenges while creating this album?
It took time. When the creative energy is flowing, you don’t want anything to interrupt it, but life had other plans. There were moments when we had to pause for weeks due to other commitments. Thankfully, we always found our way back to the music whenever we got the chance.

How would you describe the hip-hop scene in your region right now?
In the UAE specifically—I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. It feels like, instead of artists shaping the scene, a lot of them just conform to what brands, companies, and social media influencers deem marketable. Authenticity exists, but it’s rare.

What unique challenges do you face as an artist in this space?
I’ve always been overly focused on the creative side of things. The upside is that I’ve sharpened my skills with practice, but the downside is that I isolated myself in the process. I barely knew anyone in the scene for the longest time. Networking and putting myself out there is still my biggest challenge.

Do you feel like the hip-hop culture here is evolving? How so?
Definitely. Creating music is more accessible than ever, so more people are experimenting with new sounds instead of sticking to the same formula. I think it’s great for the culture.

Are there any local artists you’d love to collaborate with in the future?
Let’s see when the time comes!

How do your surroundings influence your music and storytelling?
They set the tone. My environment, the people around me—even the seasons affect my music. It all gets siphoned into the storytelling.

Are you currently working on new music? What can fans expect from your next project?
Yes, I’m working on a solo album. I think this one will really resonate with overthinkers. I’m always experimenting with new sounds, so this project has a fresh flavor—but one thing’s for sure: there will be bars.

Will your next project continue the vibe of WAVE & SHINE, or are you experimenting with new sounds?
I’m always experimenting with new sounds.

Can we expect any exciting collaborations on your upcoming work?
We’ll have to wait and see.

Do you plan on touring or performing live shows in the near future?
Not really interested in that right now, but let’s see what the future holds. I’d love to one day.

What’s one thing your fans don’t know yet about your next release?
At this stage, I don’t think I’ve shared much information about it—so almost everything. And I think it’s better that way.

Your lyrics often carry deep meaning. Where do you draw inspiration from when writing?
My past/present experiences, and the hate I have for bees.

Are there any specific life experiences that have shaped your storytelling?
I was never vocally expressive as a kid—I bottled everything up. When things got overwhelming, I’d get violent and lash out. Music became my best outlet.

Which artists—past or present—have influenced your sound the most?
Me.

Do you have a particular writing routine or ritual when crafting lyrics?
Caffeine—lots of caffeine. And I have to light my favorite scented candle, that Karma candle from Lush. That’s a special ingredient.

What’s one message you want listeners to take away from your music?
I don’t know.. don’t do drugs!
