The late Queen Elizabeth II’s 2004 third-generation L322 Range Rover has sold at auction for a princely sum of £132,000.

The luxury, customised SUV shattered its £60,000 guide price when it went under the hammer with Iconic Auctioneers at the Classic Motor Show at Birmingham’s NEC in recent days.
And the Queen’s former ride has even set a new world record price for a 2004 Range Rover being auctioned off.
Coinciding with Part 2 of Season 6 of The Crown airing on Netflix, the team at Select Car Leasing have taken a look back to unveil the other royal cars that have been auctioned off to the public – often for equally staggering amounts.
- The King of Belgium’s Aston Martin DB2 Vignale – £230,838 (€264,500)
A ride fit for a king, the late King of Belgium’s stunning 1954 Aston Martin DB2 takes the crown for being the most expensive royal car to be auctioned off to date.
Sold by Bonhams in October 2020 for a whopping £230,838, the reason why the Aston Martin DB2 Vignale had such a hefty price tag was because it was commissioned to King Baudouin of Belgium’s own personal specifications.
Ordered new back in 1955, this specific car is powered by a 3.0-litre, 140-hp engine, allowing it to accelerate to a top speed of 118mph.
At the time, the Aston Martin DB2 was described by The Motor magazine as “The fastest car in the world capable of carrying two people with a month’s luggage”.
- Prince Phillip’s Land Rover Defender – £129,850 ($171,000)
Tailgating just behind is a Land Rover Defender once owned by the late Prince Phillip, which was sold by Surrey car dealer Bramley Motors for the sum of £129,850 in February this year.
This vehicle was first owned by The Duke of Edinburgh in 2010, but the off-roader had been unused since Prince Phillip, who passed away in April 2021, surrendered his driving licence after nearly tipping over his Range Rover near the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
With just a few minor modifications, the vehicle comes equipped with heated seats, has done just 15,623 miles, and is believed to have been given Prince Phillip’s personal registration.
- Princess Diana’s Audi 80 Cabriolet – £54,000 ($66,147)
It wasn’t just The People’s Princess’ era-defining outfits that made heads turn and cameras flicker, her beloved Audi 80 Cabriolet also attracted quite a bit of attention.
This particular vehicle, auctioned by Silverstone Auctions in 2016, was sold for £54,000. It boasts a 2.3 litre, five-cylinder engine, and an automatic transmission, all encased in a beautiful Gomera Pearl paint. What’s more, it is fitted with an elegant parchment leather interior.
The vehicle was driven by the late Diana from March 1994 until July of the same year, when she returned it to Dovercourt Audi of St John’s Wood with just 4,000 miles on the clock. The car was then bought by political commentator Ian Campbell Dale, who owned it for 17 years before selling it.
Following its resale in 2016, the car was known to have fetched about 25 times what a similar, non-Royal, model would be worth.
- Queen Elizabeth II’s 2001 Daimler Majestic – £43,700 ($54,496)
Queen Elizabeth’s II beloved 2001 Daimler Majestic was sold in July 2017 at an auction with H&H Classics at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford for the price of £43,700.
This regal vehicle served Her Late Majesty for three years and has procured a mileage of 11,000.
However, the former Queen didn’t just take the passenger seat in the Daimer, she took the wheel herself multiple times.
The car itself boasts a range of royal enhancements, including a special armrest designed to cradle Her Majesty’s handbag, additional window switches, and various security features.
- Lord Mountbatten’s Mini – £23,625, ($31,000)
The Morris Mini Traveller, which belonged to The First Earl Mountbatten of Burma in 1965, was sold in July 2020 at Silverstone Auctions for £23,625.
It’s safe to say the vehicle possesses different characteristic traits compared to the standard everyday Mini. Its particular model comes with a woody design and is finished in Tartan Red with a matching vinyl interior.
What’s more, it is fitted with bumper over-riders, as well as added chrome on the sills, wheel trims, and filler cap.
