Lady Gaga has become an icon, slowly but surely rising in stardom as she released more and more amazing music and more recently movies. Her first single “Just Dance” has become a staple in many people’s dance playlists as well as is still being heard across the world. Since then, the star has been releasing amazing songs and has created an extremely loyal fanbase, also known as “The Little Monsters”. One thing that has stayed the same throughout her career is Gaga’s love for fashion and how she loves to express it. That is why, in this article, we are going to have a look at Lady Gaga’s beauty evolution and how her looks have changed over the past 17 years.
2008

In the year of the release of her first album “The Fame”, Lady Gaga stayed true to the look she showed in the iconic “Just Dance” music video. This look in particular shows Gaga’s iconic blonde hair with her blunt, long fringe that she was initially known for. However, you cannot have a Lady Gaga look without something extra that is eye-catching. For this look, it was her ‘feathered’ false eyelashes. Classic Gaga!
2009

After the release of her initial album, she toured the world showing everyone her amazing talents and her even more amazing beauty and fashion looks. This look in particular shows a shortening of her classic hair look into a rounded bob to compliment the bubble-themed outfit that she was wearing. The artist ditched the feather eyelashes and went for a more simplistic look with a light lash.
2010

In 2010, Lady Gaga was nominated for 5 different categories; Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and won two of the categories; Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording. On the red carpet, Gaga chose to change her look from her classic straight platinum blonde hair to a blonde to-yellow ombre with a messy twist. Her makeup moved away from her simplistic looks with a pop of something eye-catching and moved to a more gothic and dark look which we love.
2011

2011 was a huge year for Lady Gaga, as she released her iconic album “Born This Way” on the 23rd of May. This photograph is from Gaga in Germany, at the Bambie Awards. She was pictured in this stunning all-gold outfit with another gothic eye look. This is a slight change from her look from the Grammys the year before as she moved from a light pink lip to this stunning crimson red, bold lipstick.
2012

After the release of “Born This Way”, Gaga’s fame rose to new levels. She became an icon in the dance and electronic scene as she created songs that people could truly dance to. With her rise in fame, however, this meant that she was constantly followed around by paparazzi, as seen in this photograph. She landed at LAX airport with large sunglasses, a simple pink lip and some medium coverage foundation, still rocking the blonde hair though, of course.
2013

2013 was the year of Gaga’s album “Artpop” which was released a month before this photograph was taken at the Jingle Bell Ball in London. The album was very much about expressionism and being able to find the art within, and to show this, Gaga went full colour in everything that she did. This was reflected in her icy white hair that was a strong contrast to the bright red lip, dark eyeliner and eyebrows, along with her bright turquoise and gold outfit.
2014

In 2014, we started to see less and less of the “crazy fashion Gaga” that we all became used to. At the Harper’s Bazaar Icons Party, she chose to opt for an extremely simple and elegant look. She did, however, change up her hair again, choosing a warmer-toned blonde that was beautifully cut into a short, face-framing bob. Her thick eyeliner was perfectly paired with the, now classic Gaga, red lipstick that we had now seen many times before.
2015

Lady Gaga’s fashion and beauty style took another turn in 2015, with her changing up her classic style for something more elegant, yet again. She changed her look from a thick black eyeliner and bold lipstick to a shapely eyeshadow look, with a stunning copper nude lipstick. This was paired with her hair put up into a beautiful updo, that helped perfectly frame her face with this new look.

2017

Gaga did not give us much of a look at the 59th Grammys. Although she was not nominated for any awards that year, she performed “Moth Into Flame” with Metallica. On the red carpet, the artist wore an extremely revealing, all-black outfit to fit the theme of her Metallica night. Although the eyes are not pictured here, they were shown within the performance and displayed eyeliner and gems. The makeup look was paired with this beautiful Fuschia lipstick and a messy blonde and pink hairstyle.

2018

In 2018, Lady Gaga attended the ELLE Woman in Hollywood event, which was hosted in LA. This look however was very different from anything we have seen Gaga in before. She had overgrown roots and blonde hair in a slicked-back bun and sadly her makeup looked very heavy. She seems very uncomfortable in this look as there isn’t anything that shows Gaga at all. Definitely one of her worst looks.
2019

Lady Gaga stunned audiences with her look for the Academy Awards in 2019. She was nominated in two categories, ‘Best Actress’ for ‘A Star is Born’ and she won ‘Best Original Song’ for the amazing song ‘Shallow’ which was performed in the movie. This look showcased her more elegant turn with a stunning platinum blonde updo, with a simplistic makeup look with medium coverage foundation and makeup to accentuate her amazing bone structure.
2021

Although we do not have a photograph for 2020, that was the year of Gaga’s “Chromatica” album release. This was, to some people, an album that was similar to fame, returning to her dance and electronic era that she seemed to move away from in “Joanne”, the album she released in 2016. However, this look was pictured at the premiere of “House of Gucci”, another movie that Gaga starred in as the leading woman. She stepped a bit out of the classy and elegant look with this dark eyeshadow that was a complete contrast to her classy green gown.
2022

2022 was a big year for Lady Gaga, as she was still riding high on the success of the movie “House of Gucci”. This photograph was taken at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, where Gaga received the award for ‘Best Actress’ in the movie ‘House of Gucci’. This red carpet saw the return of her more elegant and sophisticated look, which showcased a beautiful updo and light makeup with a stunning black dress.
2023

Gaga continued with her elegant look theme, however, she decided to add a gothic twist to it by adding a dark, smokey eyeshadow and her old favourite, red lipstick. This image was taken at the 2023 Academy Awards where she was nominated for ‘Best Original Song’ with her song ‘Hold My Hand’ which was written, produced and performed by Gaga for the movie ‘Top Gun: Maverick’. She looked gorgeous, however, she sadly did not end up taking the award home.
2024

Lady Gaga stunned audiences with this beautiful look at the Venice International Film Festival. Although her face was covered by the stunning headpiece created by Philip Treacy we can see her beautiful makeup look underneath the lace accent. She had a simple brown eyeshadow creating an accentuated shape to stand out from underneath the hat. This was then beautifully paired with a darker version of that classic Gaga red lipstick, which was a gorgeous purple-red colour.
2025 (Now)

Lady Gaga looked very different to looks from previous years as she showed up at the 67th Grammys this year. She was nominated for two categories, one being ‘Song of the Year’ for ‘Die With a Smile’ which she performed with Bruno Mars, and they walked away with an award for ‘Best Pop Dup/Group Performance’ for the same song. This look is to match the vibe of her much anticipated new album ‘Mayhem’ which is set to be released on the 7th of March 2025. The song that she has already released called ‘Abracadabra’ showed a similar gothic theme to what Gaga is seen wearing here and she is returning to her thick eyeliner and simple lipstick looks that we love from her earlier years. We cannot wait to see what looks she comes out with for the rest of this album!
