Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, and so do fashion looks. Red carpet fashion is subjective and is more about not meeting red carpet expectations. We all know that last moment changes do occur due to unforeseen reasons, but some of the looks were pure let-downs since there was no synergy between the dress and the styling. Here is our list of a few fashion misses from the 2022 Oscars.
Penelope Cruz
Penelope Cruz has been one of the most glamorous actresses to walk on Oscar’s red carpet. She has been nominated multiple times and won an Oscar in 2009. Her vintage Pierre Balmain white dress from the 2009 Oscars was so elegant and beautiful that we all expected this year to be spectacular. For 2022, Cruz wore a Chanel dress with a scarf detail on the neckline. The dress did not do her justice and was styled poorly. It looked Victorian, but the oomph factor was missing. We expected her to bring on her A-game as she always does but somehow missed the mark this year.
Caitriona Balfe
Caitriona Balfe starred in the critically acclaimed film Belfast, which was nominated for multiple awards this year. She wore a white Louis Vuitton gown with ruffle details and Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry. Her gown had diamond strap details similar to her necklace which looked quite crafty than professionally tailored. Her gown somehow did not come off beautifully in the pictures, which was a shame.
Kristen Stewart
Kristen was nominated in the best actress category this year for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the film Spencer. Like her film, this look got mixed reviews. Some fashion critics have loved it, and some have not. The bottom-up look is very edgy and interesting. She dressed head to toe in Chanel, including her statement necklace and rings. Her hair and makeup, jewelry, and suit are all on point, but the shorts somehow did not feel like an Oscar-worthy choice.
H.E.R
Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson aka H.E.R was a presenter this year. She won an Oscar last year for Best Original Song and her dress was one of the most talked about. So, this year we expected much more from this songstress. She wore a Carolina Herrera neon dress, and the overall styling was a bit disappointing.
Amy Schumer
Amy Schumer was one of the 3 female hosts of this year’s Oscars. Their performance was well appreciated, but her red-carpet look got mixed reviews. She wore an Oscar de la Renta bow gown. Amy is known for her quirky sense of style, but she went for a rather safe and simple choice. This navy blue and black bow design did not do her justice, the silver outline of the bow looked more like a festive choice than for an event like the Oscars. Oscar de la Renta is one of the most iconic and revered names in the fashion world, Amy could have gone for one of the more charming and exciting dresses from his label.
